| Tiivistelmä: | Modern business processes require the availability of data processing capacity. Large investments are made in order to build up central hardware and software infrastructures. These two facts underline the need for effective planning of hardware and software resources. Hardware planning methods are rare and usually concentrate on technical aspects. The article highlights the importance of hardware planning for central computer facilities. It proposes a framework for the process of hardware purchasing and explains the influence of capacity requirement projection in this process. The paper closes by outlining experience with the structural model, identifying a number of outstanding questions. |
