| Tiivistelmä: | The paper aims to investigate the impact of the geometric layouts of workspaces on communication patterns and knowledge creation. Two different offices are examined, both of the same company and the same hierarchical level, located in the same area. The other is a cell-office area and the other a new multi-space office. By observing face-to-face communication patterns in these offices, the authors find that in multi-space offices people communicate more frequently but more briefly. Time spent without communication in multi-space offices was 29% whereas in cell-offices it was only 5 %. This indicates that in multi-space areas people have more time to concentrate on their work. |
