Tiivistelmä:Differences between countries as environments for organizations are receiving more attention because of the globalization of business. The main focus of the international management literature is on national differences in culture and cultural values (Hofstede, 1980). This is peculiar, because countries can differ in many other ways too; there are different kinds of laws and regulations, and the education of work force can differ significantly. The authors consider why the cultural differences have got so important role in the management literature and re-analyze the previous culture related researches. By using variance explained estimates the authors found that the role of cultural differences has been somewhat exaggerated. The authors conclude that it is important to understand cultural differences, but their role needs to be put in the same position with other important contextual factors.
