Tiivistelmä:This paper examines one specific government-sponsored initiative, a biotech company called "Aggregate Therapeutics" which was created by Canadian Stem Cell Network (SCN). The SCN is a generally funded research consortium and one of its objectives in recent years has been to create a commercialization strategy for Canadian stem cell research. The paper raises concern about the initiative. The main problem is the issue of science controlled by private interests that may lead to ignorance of social benefits and equitable distribution. In addition, the project suffers from a lack of financial accountability. Finally, the paper argues that the process must by transparent and all parties must be committed to a common goal.
