| Tiivistelmä: | Relative to domestic enterprises, global organizations face greater environmental complexity and uncertainty due to diversities in language, culture, government and the communication and transportation problems resulting from the greater distances involved. Empirical strategy-structure research has consistently failed to find successful formal structures for global companies whose strategies require both efficiency and sensitivity to local needs and demands. It is shown how these companies can successfully use informal organization, especially informal work groups, to achieve the higher level of information processing capacity and responsiveness necessary to compete in the complex global environment. Some dangers of indirect control are started. |
