| Tiivistelmä: | The single item problem assumes that a production system incurs fixed setup costs in every period in which it produces an item. A version of the model is examined in which the cost structure reflects not only the costs of machine setup or changeover, but also the separate opportunity costs of tying up a machine when there are other products that it could manufacture. These costs are incurred depending on the state of the machine whether or not production occurs. A formulation of the dynamic program for the uncapacitated case is presented where there are the above two kinds of costs. Bounds based on Lagrangian relaxation are suggested and one of the bounds is used in a branch- and-bound algorithm. |
