| Tiivistelmä: | Detailed studies are reported on the aspects of onshore wind energy, as applied in particular to assessing the economic prospects for its large-scale use for electricity supply. Recent developments in wind energy technology are summarized first, as it is rapid technological change which has led to such interest. Then the size and characteristics of the wind energy resource are discussed, and value of wind power in the supply system is examined using the results of detailed modelling studies. The resource and system modelling work are drawn together in a probabilistic analysis of the economic prospects for wind energy. |
