Tiivistelmä:Although a global strategy promises in theory to be highly efficient, the globalization is no panacea. In fact, global imperatives are being eclipsed by an upsurge in regional pressures. Companies are finding that the implementation of global strategies is often prohibitively costly in terms of morale, internal opposition, and lost opportunities to exploit key subsidiary strengths. As a consequence, both parents and subsidiaries are finding that regional strategies represent a safer, more manageable, option. It is shown that flexibility is critical for both parents and subsidiaries as they negotiate roles and tasks in the restructuring of operations. The needed flexibility, on the other hand, depends on the competencies within the company.
