| Tiivistelmä: | In order to assess the direct employment effectiveness of industrial financial assistance, a methodology based upon effects within firms is provided. This approach is used on a micro data set to examine the employment effects of those financial assistance policies and schemes operated in a sub-region of the Northeast of England over the period 1975-84. Later the nature of the cost per job measure which results from this approach is analyzed and the various aspects of the estimation procedure are discussed. The conclusion is drawn that the employment effects of assistance are larger than in some other studies, partly due to the specific measure of the cost per job. |
