| Tiivistelmä: | The present research has, in part, answered the initial question: Under what circumstances can a cross-border alliance be successful in the banking sector? Two main factors have been identified: (1) the aim of the alliance - global or specific - the difference between these two purposes as they affect the content of the alliance, and (2) the complementary of the respective assets owned by each partner. Our study examined these agreements over time, which enabled us to identify three generations of alliances, the first one (in the 1970s) being "defensive" in character, the second and the third being "offensive". As a result, we mentioned that first-generation cooperative agreements were canceled when the banking environment changed (in the case of Europartners). |
