| Tiivistelmä: | After a dramatic improvement between 1973-86, energy efficiency has stagnated in the USA during the past two years. Increased public awareness of and interest in solving environmental problems and Department of Energy's recent National Energy Strategy offer fresh opportunities to improve USA energy productivity. Congress and Administration can develop a larger, more visible and sustained government role in energy efficiency. This role could include expansion of the Federal Energy Management Program, revision and expansion of state and local programmes , additional funds for energy efficiency R&D, promotion of least-cost energy planning, expansion of energy efficiency standards, and collection of information on energy use. |
