Tiivistelmä:Entrepreneurs appear to become better managers of their businesses once those businesses go public: this means more attention to systematic planing, more reliance on other senior managers and directors, less secretiveness and longer time horizons. Characteristics of growing firms are identified and compared to those of "stalled" firms. Two case examples are presented. The lessons of public ownership that can be appropriated to the privately held company without going public are summarized. A three-part accountability program is described which includes information accountability, planning accountability, and people accountability.
