| Tiivistelmä: | The study of life-spans of teams began with the finding that the groups did not develop as a universal series of stages or activities through which they gradually and explicitly get ready to perform, as it is portrayed by the traditional paradigm. Instead, they progressed in a punctuating equilibrium pattern, through alternating inertia and revolution. Findings suggest that the progress was triggered more by members' awareness of time. A new way to conceptualize group development is proposed, addressing the timing and mechanisms of change as well as groups' dynamic relations with their environments. The reported results have many implications. |
