| Tiivistelmä: | This paper reviews the role of the mobilization of domestic savings in financing investment in Asian countries and discusses the contribution of government policies, particularly fiscal and financial sector policies, to that process. Based on an analysis of successful experiences, it draws attention to the need to ensure stability in key macroeconomic environment, and the need for a moderate level of taxation with selective incentive provisions for savings and investment and a careful evaluation of the nature and extent of government intervention in financial markets. |
