| Tiivistelmä: | The paper examines the scope for exporting business services by developing countries in the multilateral trading system of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The paper mainly covers two categories of tradable business services, that is, professional business services and "other business" services. The paper outlines the objectives of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and the major issues in service trade from the perspective of the developing countries. It describes some conceptual issues in business services and provides an overview of developing countries' export of business services. The paper also looks at specific commitments under GATS for "market access" in business services. In addition, the paper also looks into the impact of specific commitments on the export of business services from developing countries and also discusses some relevant issues. |
