Tiivistelmä:A key feature in the success of Japanese companies is their ability to learn rapidly from their experiences. Some of the more important contributions to the theory of organizational learning are reviewed. Arguments are presented that too much homogeneity among managers will reduce the potential for novel ideas and viewpoints to emerge. The next point is the need to introduce more flexibility into the structure of the organization through the use of job rotation, planned experience, and transient project groupings. The role of information systems and reward systems in organizational learning is emphasized. The risks of failure must be reduced. The results of a research study are described. Some principles of organizational learning are explained.
