Tiivistelmä:A new approach is proposed for improving and enhancing the means-end chain (MFC) methodology, in this research, the factor analysis with laddering technique was used to objectively simplify the attribute/consequence/value (A/C/V) variables and then derive the hierarchical value factor map (HVFM). This simplifying process can identify and clarify each consumer's A-C-V linkage and also can be used to reduce the bias of researcher's subjective judgments. Moreover, utilizing LISREL analysis to create the hierarchical value path map (HVPM) offers a fashion for confirming the strength of the consumers A-C-V linkages. The simplifying and confirming means-end processes provide a framework for understanding perceptual orientations and consumer preference.
