| Tiivistelmä: | The Enterprise for the Americas Initiative is explained, the short-term proposals are discussed. Economic integration appears to expand the space for economies of scale which in turn improves efficiency and balance of payments. The liberalization process which had begun by the end of the 1970s, is compared between 11 Latin American states. New stimuli of integration are analysed. The role of the USA in Mexico and the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean as well as its possible impact is explained, the interest of the USA in making progress in the Uruguay Round is stressed. Various scenarios based on seven hypotheses are presented, the scenarios and the dynamics of the negotiations are analysed. |
