Tiivistelmä:This article re-investigates the relationship between new business formation and employment growth. The wrong type of entrepreneurship is defined here as new firm formation which contributes to zero or negative subsequent employment growth, and the purpose of this study is to examine whether such entrepreneurship exists. This is done by using a very similar approach to that of Fritsch and Mueller (Regional Studies, 38:8, 961-976, 2004) to confirm the previous findings that the employment effect of new business formation happens in three discrete phases. Using data for Great Britain, it is then demonstrated that the employment effect of new firm formation is positive in the high-enterprise counties of Great Britain and negative in the low-enterprise counties. The results affirms the existence of "wrong type of entrepreneurship".
