| Tiivistelmä: | In this paper the author explains the preparations being made for the introduction of euro notes and coin next January. First, the launch requires an initial supply of 14.25 billion banknotes - representing around 642 billion euros - to be available by a fixed deadline. Second, the banking sector, security carriers, as well as retailers and the cash-operated machine industry, need to be involved closely in the preparations at an early stage. Third, the successful introduction of euro cash must be accompanied by an information campaign to prepare the public and professional cash handlers in Europe for the new currency. |
