Tiivistelmä:Using a data sample of 2,377 workers in the Netherlands, the authors study the buffering effect of worktime control on the impacts of worktime demands on work-family interference (WFI). Three types of demands are examined: contractual hours, overtime hours and commuting hours. Regression analysis of the survey results reveals that high amounts of contractual and overtime hours are related high WFI. Leave control has a reducing effect on WFI, and flexible control over starting and finishing times buffered the WFI-increasing impact of contractual hours. The authors recommend preventing employees from working very long days and claim that worktime control can assist in maintaining a balance between work and family.
