Tiivistelmä:Organizational commitment is the extent to which an employee identifies and is involved in an organization. Three determinants of organizational commitment are examined: corporate restructuring, cultural differences and labour-management relations. Surveys of employees in corporations that have been restructured by downsizing suggest that there is some loss of loyalty and commitment. Cultural differences between Americans and Japanese can explain differing levels of organizational commitment in these countries. Unionized workers feel a commitment to both the company and the union, which may cause problems during conflicts between the union and management. The relationship between commitment and productivity is examined.
