Tiivistelmä:The exchange rate and comparative inflation rates between the Netherlands and the USA should be determining variables of American visits to the Netherlands and Amsterdam. The papers shows that, when plotted, a correlation does exist, but correlations are not the same as casual relationships. With a more sophisticated analysis, the correlation cannot be "explained". Other variables may be operating; for example, that a visit by an American visitor is part of a general tour to Europe. The allocation of length of stay in any one destination is determined by tour operators, and their decision may be based on economic data. While economic variables are important, of more importance is the way in which both visitors and "middle" men in the distribution channel view such variables in their decision taking processes.
