Tiivistelmä:There are strong differences between Britain and France in the way management is perceived, structured and practised, and these differences need to be taken into careful consideration when designing management development programmes according to the authors. A socio-historical approach is used to identify the sources of these differences, which the authors argue have contributed to the emergence of two distinct managerial types - the 'gifted amateurs' in Britain and the 'bright cadres' in France.
