| Tiivistelmä: | The article examines Porter's three-dimension typology as followed by manufacturing firms in the European nation of Portugal. The survey results indicate that the strategies employed, regardless of the degree of formalization of the planning process, are internally consistent and viable according to existing theory. This study is also important to US firms who are considering joint ventures with European firms in order to participate in this opportunity. This study firmly supports the contention that the Portuguese manufacturing community has the potential to be an excellent partner for firms from the United States. |
