Tiivistelmä:Many people would say that Japanese plants located in the USA (Japanese transplants) are superior to USA-owned plants. However, it is not necessarily the case. According to the results, Japanese transplants may be good but they are no invincible. The performance of transplants is analyzed, including quality, cost and productivity, inventory performance, delivery time, and plant management practices (manufacturing strategy, quality management, process technology, human resource management) are compared. A thorough comparison of Japanese transplants and their home plants is also given. A performance comparison of USA and Japanese plants show that the latter are not superior necessarily.
