Tiivistelmä:Under Communist rule, the Bulgarian wine industry was a state-controlled monopoly for 46 years. Vinprom, the state organization, supplied national demand and, via its export arm, Vinimpex, handled the industries exports largely to the Eastern Bloc countries. Following the demise of Communist rule, Vinprom still controlled 80 per cent of wine production in Bulgaria in 1991. This article describes the success of the European market for Bulgarian wines. Breaking into the UK and other European markets by the Bulgarian wine producers has paid handsomely.
