| Tiivistelmä: | Slovenia being a new state is interested in establishing itself as soon as possible in the international environment and to affirm itself in all fields of international life and work in the process of economic and political liberation.One of the objectives of such economic affirmation is integration into international economic associations.This is the reason why on June 5, 1992, Slovenia officially applied for membership in the general agreement on tariffs and trade.Gatt is a multilateral agreement with elements of an international organisation.It is an association of 111 states, which regulates 90% of the world trade.It was established in Brettonwoods in 1947 (along with the World Bank and IMF) upon a common wish of the states to liberate international trade.The application of Slovenia for membership in Gatt in fact means that Gatt would be expected to search for the best possible solution to membership of countries in transition.It means a precedent.This is also the reason why the membership procedure takes longer than usual. |
