| Tiivistelmä: | The world of boycotts is becoming more complicated. Since 1985, the number of ongoing boycotts has increased fourfold to nearly 200. Since 1989 nearly fifty boycotts have ended succesfully. Among the targeted companies that were pressured to change are some of America's largest companies. The Wall Street Journal dubbed 1990 "The year of the boycott." In fact, the 1990s may well be the decade of the boycott. Most ongoing boycotts object to corporate practices involving the environment, discrimination against women and gays, cruelty to animals, unfair labor practices, and doing business in countries with a record of human right abuses. |
