Tiivistelmä:As South Africa enters a new era, the protagonists in industrial relations are faced with the challenge of a role in controlling the inflationary aspects of collective bargaining. Both organized labour and organized business must decide the extent to which wage settlements will impact on the wider economy. Shows that the wage maximization of individual firms increases the level of unemployment as they respond to higher wage demands. On the other hand, very low wage demands result in weaker consumer demand and the inability to create a level of output to fight unemployment.
