Tiivistelmä:Any production system is exposed to uncertain events, such as machine breakdowns. In the past, safety stock has been commonly used to deal with uncertainty. Within the context of MRP systems, safety lead time and safety capacity are also methods for protecting the system against uncertainty. This article suggests a different approach to buffering operational uncertainty. The aims are to survey these dampening methods within the context of MRP systems, to classify them based on such dimensions as the nature and locality, and to identify the operating environments in which these dampening methods can be applied effectively.
