Tiivistelmä:In discussions on economic policy it is often assumed that every second enterprise fails within the first five years following its establishment. On statistical average, however subsidised start-ups run a much lower failure risk. The study confirms the assumption that smaller enterprises are confronted with higher dissolution and failure rates than large ones. This proves the validity of the "Liability of Smallness Hypothesis". The sector also seems to have an impact on the dissolution and failure rates.During the third and fourth year after their establishment the probability of a dissolution or failure is largest. Basically this corresponds to the "Liability of Adolescence Hypothesis", which assumes a delayed newcomer failure rate due to a sufficient availability of initial resources.
