| Tiivistelmä: | This paper derives the scape and scope economy measures for the U.S. cooperative banks for the years 1989, 1990, and 1991 using the translog cost function. The results suggest that cooperative banks can save costs through increasing their size and diversifying their outputs. The banking industry has witnessed a wave of deregulatory acts since 1980. The emergence of new competitive pressure resulting from this rapidly changing environment and recent developments in the electronics industry have altered the product set and the production-cost structure of the depository institutions. |
