| Tiivistelmä: | Corporate Japan's international competitiveness declined appreciably under the weight of the rising yen last year. Many companis found themselves struggling just to survive when the yen was trading above US1=Y80. Since then, however, the exchange rate has settled back to the US1=Y100 - Y110 range, and Japanese companies in many industries are making a comeback. Besides a weaker yen, their improved competitiveness reflects hard work in restructuring and shifting production offshore, states the author. |
