| Tiivistelmä: | A common problem in industrial engineering is the determination of department locations in a facility, that is, the determination of a layout. This paper presents an application of simulated annealing to facility layout problems with single and multiple floors. Using a new layout generation routine and spacefilling curves, the authors develop a layout algorithm based on simulated annealing that considers an expanded set of department exchanges. Although the algorithm can be applied to many types of facilities, its primary focus is on production facilities. |
