Tiivistelmä:In 1991, the eastern area's GDP accounted for 54.9% of the whole country's GDP. It rose to 59.12% in 1994 with an average annual increase of 1.4 percentage points. However the central and western areas' GDP decreased 1.4 percentage points. Meanwhile, the changes of inflation rates in the eastern and western areas are in consistent with these areas' economic growth rates. After high inflation in 1994, the range of price increases in the southeast coastal area's Guangdong, Hainan, Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang were less than the country's average level of 18.1% at the end of 1994. However, in the western Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Guizhou and Sichuan the increase range was higher than the country's average level. Gansu, Hunan and Guizhou with the highest increase range are all situated in the central and western areas.
