| Tiivistelmä: | The divergence between world market and intra-Soviet bloc prices is a well known phenomenon. The tendency to underprice raw materials and energy and to overprice machinery within the CMEA system has been well documented in the debates over the suspected subsidies from the USSR to Eastern Europe implied by this pricing pattern. Pricing distortions in intra-USSR trade did not come to the foreground until the late 1980s, when the issue of inter-republic subsidies became central to the discussions about the break-up of the USSR. |
