Tiivistelmä: | This paper takes a fresh look at organizational governance. Using qualitative methods and an interpretive perspective, the authors provide a thick description of the interplay between a large nonprofit organization's board of directors and top managers. Their account highlights the role of organizational dramaturgy and identity in shaping directors' behaviors. In recent years, agency theory has substantially influenced research on corporate government. The study contributes to research on organization identity by proposing a model of how organizational and individual identities shape the board role through the processes of identification and action, and how a hybrid identity generates the potential for intra-role conflict. |
