| Tiivistelmä: | The concept of extended producer responsibility ("product stewardship") maintains that the users, the state or society are no longer responsible for the disposal of products but rather the developers, producers and distributers. The authors interpret the assignment of producer responsibility as a reallocation of property rights over resources. The question under what conditions such reallocation makes economic sense is raised in this study. In particular, the dynamic incentives to optimize the disposability of goods form an integral part of the analysis. Finally, recommendations for the implementation and realization of the still relatively abstract concept of extended producer responsibility are formulated and potential problems are addressed. |
