| Tiivistelmä: | The paper reviews recent developments in the theory of finance focusing on the interaction between capital structure and strategic rivalry in product markets. Based on selected models we sketch the use of capital-structure as a commitment device, its role in deterring predation and its importance for sustaining collusion. In some cases we find a tradeoff between providing incentives for decision- makers within the firm and maintaining competitive strength in the product market. This may explain the little use of high powered financial incentive schemes. |
