| Tiivistelmä: | Economic cooperation between the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)' started very slowly in the mid-1970s with several trade and industrial cooperation programmes. Modest though they were, initial economic cooperation agreements in ASEAN were important in establishing a strong base on which to build deeper ASEAN economic integration. The paper presents a overview of the EU-ASEAN economic partnership, with a focus on trade and investment. As part of this investigation, the authors include an econometric analysis of bilateral relations and an evaluation of what EU economic integration has implied for ASEAN, focusing on the ex-post effects of the Single Market Programme. The paper also considers EU direct foreign investment (DPI) in ASEAN in a comparative context. |
