Tiivistelmä:This paper suggests that current compensation (hereafter as: comp.) arrangements for senior U.S. executives (here as: exec./execs.) are unacceptable on moral grounds. Neither aggregate welfare considerations (here as: consd.) nor consd. of fairness support the current structure or level of exec. comp. Rather, these consd. give greater weight to those arguing for reform and reduction of exec. pay. Moreover, the typical economic rationales for current practices are incomplete and uncompelling. There is no justification provided for exec. pay practices that have become the norm in the U.S. and may be spreading elsewhere, incl. Europe.
