Tiivistelmä:On the organizational level, sustainable development (SD) is often measured using the triple bottom line dividing performance reporting into the economic, environmental and social dimensions. Total quality management (TQM) has proven to contribute to good economic performance. Hence, the synergies of the two concepts, that is, TQM and SD are reviewed. It is shown that existing economic sustainability performance measurements based on distribution of surplus should be complemented with indicators for internal losses. A sound profit is in most cases necessary, however, it is not the only condition for economic sustainability.
