| Tiivistelmä: | The way by which economic actors shape their institutional and organizational contexts during the internationalization process of their activities is examined in the article. The authors have chosen law firms, because this profession has been considered as highly determined by the national context of professional and legal systems and would lead to the assumption of strong institutional legacies in the dynamics of these firms. The comparative study of law firms in the UK and Germany discredits this view. In both settings there are groups of lawyers whose entrepreneurial orientation and international reach were clearly stronger than among other groups in this profession. Since the 1970s these lawyers and law firms have been redefining their institutional and organizational contexts in ways that would enable them to reach for new international markets for legal services. The authors conclude how there are signs of both institutional legacies and path-moderation in the internationalization processes of law firms. All in all, the international markets for legal services seem to be more fragmented than it has been assumed before. |
