Tiivistelmä:This study analyses 5 news articles published in English from 3 Ethiopian newspapers to examine the type of knowledge journalists presuppose in news discourse (here as: n-disc.) and the amount of processing effort for readers. It is indicated that some news article writers unfairly presuppose different types of knowledge in n-disc., adding an aura of mystification to certain issues. It is argued that in doing so, journalists obscure certain issues setting their readers the need to invest excessive processing efforts to achieve the required cognitive effect of the articles.
