Tiivistelmä: | Previous research on corporate elites has focused on how interlocking directorships serve to create inter-organizational linkages and on what happens with board members losing their seats and those linkages being broken. Instead of focusing on the corporate network ties, herein the focus is on the nodes of these networks, the individual members of boards of directors. Identified are the conditions under which a director can retain his/her board seat even after he/she loses the executive position providing initial entry onto the board. The case of outside directors having lost their executive positions in their home organizations provides an excellent opportunity to investigate two competing theoretical perspectives: i. the inter-corporate and ii. intra-class perspectives on corporate elites. |
