| Tiivistelmä: | The location of branches of foreign banks in West Germany depends on what they hope to achieve. Hamburg, the world's largest port has attracted much of the world 's banking exotica. Dusseldorf has been the home of most Japanese commercial banks. Frankfurt is the financial capital of the FRG, 255 out of 373 banks being foreign. The US banks are concentrated here. After the liberalization of West Germany's capital markets a lot of foreign banks entered the market: first Swiss banks, then US and Japanese banks. The locals are asking themselves if that is the shape of things to come. |
