Tiivistelmä:US firms have increasingly had to consider a transformed capital market environment during the 80s. It has become essential for American managers to see the strategic importance of capital market relationships. These strategies are explored here from the point of view of American's leading competitor, Japan. Japanese firms have forged special business alliances that link banks, shareholders, and trading partners together into coherent groupings of mutual interest. The close investor-management relationships resulting from these alliances are discussed making clear their differences from those in the US. The long-term investment strategies and internal management systems are analyzed.
