Tiivistelmä:It is shown that teenagers' motivation to train for technological work can, in part, be predicted by the degree to which they see their parents as having contact with technology in their work. Findings from a large, cross-regional survey of factors influencing young people's (13-18-year-olds) motivations to take technological training are reported. The sample consisted of 3160 pupils in six state sector comprehensive schools in the UK. Respondents completed a 14-item, five-point Likert-scaled measure of their motivation to train for technological jobs. Three measures of the parental influence were used. The results are summarized and analyzed. The implications of the most important findings are discussed in relation to policy and the socialization process.
