| Tiivistelmä: | By any standards electricity production creates high profile environmental impacts. This could become even worse unless long-term and programmed investments into energy supply and conservation strategies are made with proper care for all identifiable environmental effects. The present publicly-owned electricity industry in the United Kingdom has an environmental track record that is patchy but generally unsatisfactory, despite some improvements. The key issue facing the privatized industry is how comprehensive and effective all aspects of regulation will be. That task can only be achieved by integrating regulatory functions in a single, independent, and effective agency. |
